Flickr & Picnik

Flickr; the image and video hosting website and online community platform. I was unaware of this hosting site before this course and again found its use invaluable. In addition to being a popular website for users across the globe it was again very easy to set-up my account and start uploading my favourite pictures and videos. I have already uploaded several pictures and used them for personal activities and found the process very easy.

Picnik is a great tool! It encompasses all the necessary basic picture editing tools needed. My previous attempts at picture editing were really restrictive and frustrating but Picnik was very straight forward. The tools are very easy to use which means a photo can be edited very quickly (very important for busy teachers). The following picture was edited to make the writing more visible, which was accomplished by the simple click of a few buttons.

In terms of the pedagogical use of these 2 technologies, I believe students could easily use these technologies when preparing presentations (both individually and in group work), creating a ‘show & tell’ slideshow and allows for a basic open licence for viewing and editing photo’s in the classroom environment. Flickr allows for both public and private viewing of uploaded pictures so any class work can be concealed. For teachers the technology adds to the ease to which visual teaching aids can be assembled and could come into particular use when catering for visual learners ( i.e. many Autism Spectrum Disorder learners).

  1. Nick,

This is fantastic. I like what you have edited and you can really see the difference. The only problem I see with using this technology in the classroom is that not all State Schools may have access to these websites or the technology to incorporate these practices into their classrooms.
